Tourist Visa
Subclass 600 Visitor visa:
This visa is for tourists, business visitors or to visit family for 3, 6 or 12 months.
- Tourist stream (apply in Australia).
- This visa stream lets you visit Australia as a tourist, to see family and friends or for purposes other than business or medical treatment.
- Stay
- With this visa you can:
- Visit family or friends.
- Be here as a tourist, for a cruise, or for any purpose except business or medical treatment.
- You can study or train for up to 3 months in total on this visa. But if your main reason for travelling to Australia is study, a student visa might be more appropriate.
- You can’t work.
This is a temporary visa:
You can stay for the period or dates specified on the visa grant letter. The Department determines the length of your visa on a case by case basis. Things they might consider when determining your stay period include:
- How long you want to stay?
- Why do you want to stay in Australia?
- You might not be granted the length of stay you want.
You can be granted this visa with one entry or multiple entries. If you are granted a visa with multiple entries, you can leave and re-enter Australia on the visa while it is valid. It is a condition of this visa that you don’t stay in Australia for a total of more than 12 months in an 18-month period. If you currently hold a Visitor visa, a Working Holiday visa, a Work and Holiday visa or a bridging visa, and grant of this visa would mean you stay in Australia for more than 12 consecutive months, you will need to show there are exceptional circumstances.
You can be granted this visa with one entry or multiple entries. If you are granted a visa with multiple entries, you can leave and re-enter Australia on the visa while it is valid. It is a condition of this visa that you don’t stay in Australia for a total of more than 12 months in an 18-month period. If you currently hold a Visitor visa, a Working Holiday visa, a Work and Holiday visa or a bridging visa, and grant of this visa would mean you stay in Australia for more than 12 consecutive months, you will need to show there are exceptional circumstances.
Include family:
You can’t include family members in your visitor visa application. A separate visitor visa application must be made for each member of your family, including those listed on your passport.
Tourist stream (apply outside Australia):
This visa stream lets you visit Australia as a tourist, to go on a cruise or to see family and friends.
- You might be granted a stay of 3, 6 or 12 months.
- Eligible parents of Australian citizens might be granted a longer validity period.
- Visit friends and family, cruise or have a holiday.
Sponsored family stream:
- This visa stream lets people who are sponsored, usually by a family member, come to Australia to visit their family members.
- You must be sponsored by an eligible family member who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
- We might ask your sponsor to pay a security bond.
Business visitor stream:
- This visa stream lets you visit Australia for business reasons.
- You can make a short visit for business visitor reasons, but you can’t work or sell goods or services.
- We might let you enter Australia once or many times while the visa is valid.
- You must be outside Australia when you apply and when we decide on your visa.
Approved Destination Status stream:
- This visa stream is for citizens from certain areas of China visiting Australia on a tour organized by an approved travel agent.
- This visa lets citizens of the People’s Republic of China (excluding SARs) visit Australia with an organised tour group.
- You must remain with the organised tour group.
Frequent traveller stream:
- This visa stream is for citizens of the People’s Republic of China who travel often to Australia for business or personal reasons.
- We might grant a validity period for up to 10 years.
- You must hold a passport from the People’ Republic of China, SARs excluded.
- You must provide biometrics within the People’s Republic of China before you apply.
